Christy was the best midwife and absolute greatest decision I made during my pregnancy was to go under her care. She supported me every step of the way. She was kind, respectful, professional, and truly listened to me, which made all the difference. I never felt rushed or dismissed—just cared for.

She gave me the experience I was looking for but thought was out of reach while being cared for at the hospital. I was nervous for my birth before seeing her but once I was in her care, I actually looked forward to it. My labor and delivery was exactly what I had always wanted (natural birth, tub for labor/birth, freedom to move during labor, etc.) and being in her care felt very personal. From first meeting her, I could tell that she cared about her clients and that she was extremely passionate about what she does. She respected and honored every decision my husband and I made and I felt very well taken care of.

When my daughter finally arrived, it was the most surreal and powerful moment of my life. I felt so strong and completely euphoric. I healed quickly, was up and walking within days, and emotionally, I felt better than I had ever imagined. It wasn’t just a good birth—it was the right birth for me, and beyond grateful to Christy for her care and guidance. I couldn’t have wished for a better experience. Can’t wait for round two! 🙂

Christy Cannon is an absolute Angel on Earth. I came to Christy at around 12 weeks pregnant with my second baby, after very disappointing appointments with my previous OBGYN, who was discouraging of me wanting to attempt a VBAC after my first pregnancy resulted in a C-section due to “failure to progress”. He even said my pelvis just might be too small to push out a baby. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t!

Christy is not only the warmest, kindest presence, she is extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and most importantly: an evidence-based practitioner who confirmed that I was a perfect candidate for VBAC and was thrilled to help me achieve it. I loved that Christy had a background as a NICU nurse for so many years before becoming a Nurse Midwife; it gave my husband and I extra peace in knowing just how experienced she would be caring for not only my pregnancy and birth, but for our daughter after she was born!

Christy was such a peaceful and wonderful presence throughout every appointment, went out of her way to visit and help me through a challenging ER visit halfway through my pregnancy, and was always available via text or phone to help me with questions or concerns.

My birthing experience was absolutely incredible, and unlike an OB, Christy was actually present and helped guide me through my active labor alongside our amazing doula, Mary Skinner. She helped and nurtured me through a very difficult pushing phase to successfully achieve my unmedicated VBAC! She is such a gem in the Ventura County birthing community, and it is invaluable to have her as a provider through Los Robles, where I’ve since learned that many other doctors are unsupportive of VBAC. I found Christy late in my 3rd pregnancy and she is everything I’ve always wanted in a doctor/midwife but didn’t think existed.. you get the best of both with the resources of a hospital but extraordinary care of a midwife. Just above & beyond personalized care, natural options, coaching and guidance, lactation/ breastfeeding help, everything you need and more. She doesn’t forget about you once your delivery is over like every other doctor we’ve had. She checks in, provides support, she takes as much time as you need, is available by phone all the time if you need her and she just truly cares and loves you and your baby. I truly can’t recommend her enough & believe every woman would have an amazing experience with her like I did. Christy is amazing!! She is the sweetest and most caring practitioner I have ever had. Very attentive, responsive, and really makes you feel cared about. I always look forward to my appointments with her. She provides a comfortable and non-judgmental space. While my birth did end in the hospital due to my body not cooperating, she came with us and remained part of the process the whole time, also acting as an advocate for me. Unmedicated Natural Birth

After 4 hospital births with various experiences, I chose to have my fifth baby unmedicated. I had never done it before, nor had I ever had a baby with a midwife, and Christy was SO supportive and helpful all along the way. I adored her kind, calm, and friendly nature, as well as the fact that she allowed me to be the driver of my own care. When it was time to do anything (blood tests, glucose screening, vaccines, exams, etc.) she gave me all the information and let me choose how I wanted to proceed. Nothing was ever forced upon me and I never felt judged for any choice I made. Such an incredible breath of fresh air!

On top of all that, it’s clear that Christy is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. It was important to me to hire a midwife who is experienced medically and can handle anything, since birth is not ever straightforward. I felt so safe and in the best hands! Most of all, Christy truly cares about her patients. She is loving and sweet and offers the best possible care, classes, and education she can to help make the entire birth process exciting rather than scary.

If you’re on the fence about using a midwife, hire Christy! My only regret is that I didn’t have this same experience with my other 4 births. I was honestly a little sad after my baby was born because it meant I didn’t need to be under Christy’s care anymore. I’ve had the hardest time finding healthcare providers that I love in this area, but she is a special one. I truly cannot recommend her enough!

We’ve been telling all of our friends how special and amazing our birth experience was! Upon first meeting her Christy and introducing myself, I handed her our birth plan. Christy looked at me and said she would read it. Her authenticity and genuine care in her eyes enabled me to believe she would read and take to heart our requests. My wife Emily notes that when Christy introduced herself to her, many of my wife’s uncertainties vanished. Emily was and is incredibly grateful to have Christy as our midwife. The entire birth Christy was attentive, confident, and friendly. During conversation, we learned that she was a nurse with NICU for 20 years, and recently transitioned to midwifery. This news washed over us like a wave of peace; we knew we had a fearless and competent midwife, able to recognize and handle any unexpected surprises.

Once our daughter had fully emerged from the womb, Christy immediately and expertly placed her upon my wife’s chest, and the moment was pure bliss. With the umbilical cord attached (per our request) and delivering every ounce of fresh lifeblood to our newborn daughter, my wife wept for joy as she met the person she’d been growing and nourishing for 10 months. Every step and procedure after that went well, and there was a strong sense of joy and peace in the room.

I feel like I hit the jackpot finding Christy Cannon. I started working with her around the middle of my pregnancy, and pretty quickly realized I was in very good hands. It was really nice having the option of a hospital birth at Los Robles while still working with a midwife who could advocate for a low-intervention approach. That balance made me feel a lot more confident and supported going into everything.

Communication with her was smooth and reliable. If I reached out, she got back to me in a thoughtful and reassuring way, and I always felt supported. Her home visits were so helpful–they made everything feel more comfortable, personal, and just less clinical overall. I also felt really strongly that birth is such an intimate experience, and I only wanted people around me who I felt completely comfortable with. Christy was that person for me. She has such a warm, calming energy that made it easy to trust her and feel safe, which honestly meant everything in that environment.

With her support, I was able to have a natural, unmedicated birth. Was it magical and serene the whole time?
